Laboratory Tests

A laboratory value is only interpretable with its test identity, unit, collection context and representation.

Keep a result with its context

A form may present several results in adjacent cells. A findings-oriented representation can instead put each result on its own row. Keeping the original result as text preserves qualifiers that a numeric database column would discard.

IdentifierDomainTeaching explanationExample JSON typeExample value
STUDYIDLBThe study identifier keeps laboratory-result teaching rows in their study context. It does not identify the laboratory test, specimen or measurement unit.stringCLD-SYN-001
DOMAINLBThe value LB identifies the laboratory-result context in this lesson. Read it alongside the test code, original result, unit and collection timing to understand the observation.stringLB
USUBJIDLBThe fictional subject key links laboratory observations to a participant. Multiple tests can share this key; the test and timing context are still needed to interpret each result.stringSYN-001
LBSEQLBThis example sequence number separates rows inside the LB teaching extract. It is useful for referring to an observation, but the original collection identifier is retained separately in the mapping manifest.number1
LBTESTCDLBAn authored token separates one fictional laboratory measurement from another. It illustrates a short identifier but is not a verified CDISC submission value.stringDEMO_LAB
LBORRESLBThe illustrative text preserves a comparison sign along with a number. A source result may contain information that a direct floating-point cast loses.string<5
LBORRESULBThe illustrative unit text is deliberately marked as teaching-only. The value should travel with its result rather than being inferred from a screen caption.stringDEMO_UNIT
LBDTCLBA complete date string illustrates a finding's timing context without assigning a timezone or inventing collection time.string2025-02-03
